Keane on Crosby

Media needs to “Figure it out”!
As an avid sports fan, especially hockey, I make a point of reading both daily newspapers to stay in touch with what is going on in the sports world both locally and abroad. Often I enjoy the insights of our local scribes, and make a point of reading certain columnists on a daily basis. However, this week I was again reminded of why I do NOT like to read certain sports columns from writers who simply irritate me time and time again.
Certain members of our local print and TV media have virtually cut themselves off from getting any quotes or interviews from some of our local sports hero’s. Whether it be players and staff of Manitoba Moose or Winnipeg Blue Bombers, certain members of the media have not a “snowballs hope in hell” of getting a quote or an interview directly simply because the sports celebrity’s doesn’t like them and won’t support them. The sport celeb’s get sour at the way they these media types handle the development of their stories or how they handle themselves during interviews, and will refuse to talk to that given reporter on a regular basis.
Now, doesn’t it make sense to look after your gravy train??!! I might be missing something here, but one would assume media types would want to have healthy relationships with any and all sport celeb’s in our community considering the fact that they rely on getting information and quotes from them on a regular basis that would be of value in order to sell newspapers, or have an entertaining broadcast.
Doesn’t make sense to me!
Ovechkin or Crosby? Give me Crosby any day !
After watching Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals fall to the unheralded Montreal Canadians, I can only think of one point that now summarizes the debate of who is a the best player in the world – give me a winner!
Sidney Crosby-led teams have won World Junior Championships, a Stanley Cup, and an Olympic Gold Medal. OV-led teams stumbled in the limelight at the World Junior Championships, were embarrassed at the Olympics, and now have been ousted early in one of the biggest upsets in Stanley Cup Play-off history. Crosby has made it clear that he is the guy you want on your team when it comes to “crunch-time”.
No one questions the fact the OV is arguably the most exciting player in the world. But I am finding him more and more selfish, and not nearly the kind of team player that Crosby is. Crosby uses his team mates much more than OV does, and it shows in the results of every major event the two have gone head-to head in since the debate began.
Case closed: Crosby is the guy!
